Most creators don’t have a free weekend to spend evaluating email marketing platforms. You have a newsletter to write, a course to launch, an audience to grow. Choosing software shouldn’t eat days of your life.
That’s why this site exists.
What I do
I spend the hours so you don’t have to. For every tool I cover, I:
- Read the actual docs — not just the marketing pages
- Test the platform with real-world creator workflows in mind
- Compare features side-by-side against direct competitors
- Track pricing changes, plan limits, and new feature rollouts over time
- Surface the trade-offs that vendor websites bury
The goal isn’t to write a 4,000-word SEO post that ranks for “best email tool.” It’s to give you a clear, honest answer about which platform fits your situation — and which ones to skip.
How I test the tools I review
Every review on this site follows the same process, in this order:
- Hands-on testing. I create a real account, import a test list, build actual automations, send test emails, and use the tool the way an operator would. No conclusions from watching demo videos.
- Real pricing math. Every cost comparison uses published 2026 pricing at specific subscriber counts. If a tool charges $X at 25,000 subscribers, that’s the number I use — not the marketing homepage number.
- Documentation review. Marketing pages are optimistic. Docs and community forums show what the tool actually does at scale. I read both.
- Comparison against direct competitors. No tool is reviewed in isolation. Every recommendation includes what the alternatives cost and where they win.
- Ongoing updates. Tools change. Pricing changes. Every article is revisited at least once a quarter and updated when the underlying facts move.
If a review here recommends a tool, it’s because I’ve tested it, priced it, and would suggest it to someone in the situation I describe — not because it pays the highest commission.
Who this site is for
Creators building an audience on their own terms. Newsletter writers, course creators, coaches, freelancers, consultants, indie founders — anyone who needs reliable email infrastructure without burning a week on research.
If you’ve ever read three “Top 10 Email Tools” lists and walked away more confused than when you started, this site is for you.
How I make money (and why you can trust me anyway)
Trusted Tool Guide is reader-supported. When you click an affiliate link and sign up for a product, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Here’s what that does NOT mean:
- I’m not paid by vendors to write favorable reviews
- I don’t accept “review unit” perks that bias recommendations
- I don’t hide downsides to push affiliate revenue
- I will tell you when a tool isn’t a fit for you, even if it costs me a commission
When I recommend a tool, it’s because I genuinely think it’s the right fit for the use case described — not because the affiliate payout is highest. The full disclosure lives on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
Editorial standards
- No paid placements. No vendor pays for coverage, better rankings, or favorable framing. Ever.
- Affiliate disclosure on every article. If a link earns me a commission, it’s marked as an affiliate link at the top of the article. See the full disclosure.
- Recommendations follow the reader’s interest. When the honest answer is “the tool that doesn’t pay me a commission,” that’s the answer. See my Kit review — I’m not in Kit’s affiliate program and I still tell you when Kit is the right pick.
- Errors get corrected in public. If I get a number or claim wrong, I fix it in the article and note the correction. Reader trust is the entire business model.
My approach
I run my own newsletter — Trusted Tool Guide Newsletter — on Beehiiv, and I use MailerLite hands-on when researching for the review side of the site. That means when I recommend Beehiiv for newsletter operators or MailerLite for solo creators, it’s not theoretical — I’m using these tools daily and have felt what works and what doesn’t. I’m not a 100,000-subscriber influencer, and I’m not trying to be. I’m a working practitioner who researches thoroughly and writes honestly.
My job is to be the independent voice in the room. Not another creator selling you on the exact stack that worked for them. Just an honest read on the tools you’re actually considering, from someone with no stake in which one you pick.
